Courses/Apprenticeships

CULINARY STUDIES

This apprenticeship will teach students the fundamentals of being successful in a culinary setting. Areas that will be explored include safe food handling and food contamination. Familiarization of kitchen equipment with emphasis on safety, proper sanitation of equipment and surfaces and the importance of personal hygiene and hand washing as it relates to food preparation will be demonstrated.

DOMESTIC/HOUSEKEEPING STUDIES

The student will learn general domestic/housekeeping duties and maintenance through this apprenticeship. They will learn how to effectively maintain a private residence or commercial building to make sure it meets sanitation requirements with the aide of a Career Coach. The student will learn the basics of housekeeping including: dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dish washing, bed making and laundry. The student will learn safety procedures with equipment and cleaning solutions.

HEALTH AND FITNESS STUDIES

The student will learn the fundamentals of the 4 major components to fitness. Those include: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition. There will be a strong emphasis on safe and effective program development as well as goal setting using the SMART goal setting principal. ACI is also working to create our own certification courses that can be offered to students to help further their Health and Fitness profession.

HORTICULTURAL STUDIES

The student will learn general landscape maintenance through this apprenticeship. Students will learn how to safely and effectively use equipment to mow and trim grass. They will learn the basics on pruning shrubs and bushes; they will also learn overall plant care. Weeding will be a skill learned as well, the student will be able to identify weeds and know the difference between weeds and plants. Seasonal tasks may be required, this includes but not limited to planting annuals in the spring, cleaning up leaves and debris in the fall and snow removal in the winter.
